Case Study: 7" Liner Isolation thru 2.16" Restriction
A UKCS Operator required well bore isolation prior to the well being abandoned. The permanent barrier had to be installed in 7” casing and isolate a differential pressure of 1800psi, at a depth of 17000ft.
The completion had minimum restrictions of 2.16”, resulting in a maximum permissible tool string diameter of 1.9”, which posed a significant challenge when trying to create a 7” wellbore isolation. This required a solution which could increase its outer diameter by up to 3 times its running O.D. The operator’s historical solution for high expansion challenges required a minimum restriction of 2.19” or more.
